We always have to have a Family Home Evening treat and although I love treats it is not always good for my waist line. So here a some fun ideas for activities to get you moving and some healthier treats to go along with them.

FIBER- dietary fiber prevents constipation, lowers blood cholesterol and may even help you lose weight. The refining process of white flour takes out a lot of the fiber for example 1/2 cup of white flour contains only 1.4g of fiber whereas 1/2 cup wheat contains 6.4 g of fiber!!!! VITAMINS-the refining process also takes out many vitamins including folate, riboflavin, and many B vitamins. Some food manufactures will replace (enrich) the vitamins in white flour. However, in most cases your body can’t absorb these enriched vitamins as well as the natural ones. PHYTOCHEMICALS-are found in plants and have many protective or disease preventive properties. Many function as antioxidants preventing oxidative damage. These are not found in white flour due to processing, but are plentiful in whole wheat. And unlike vitamins they can't be added back to the white flour. Check out this adapted 100% Whole Wheat Bread Recipe............... Smiley's :) are good choices for everyday and frownies :( are good occasional choices! Many of my readers have been asking for diary and gluten free recipes. For most the population, having dairy and gluten in your diet is a perfectly healthy choice. However, the increasing incidence of food allergies and food sensitivities has caused more and more people to forgo gluten and casein (dairy) in their diets. So, I have decided to do an experimental week of gluten-free, dairy-free recipes to develop some delicious and nutritious recipes for those who have to live without. I am excited to take on the project (though, I can't say my husband is too happy about this). In the mean time, to help readers (and also to help me find recipes), I've developed a list of what I think are the very best gluten, dairy free recipe blogs or websites. I hope this helps all of you who need these recipes and those of us who don't but just want some unique healthy recipes! If you are considering a gluten free diet, here is a gluten free guide to get more information. FOR MOMS!!!! with KIDS it can sometimes be hard to fit in a full 30 minutes of working out. Ever since having my little William, it has been harder to put in the time. I've heard the more kids you have the harder it gets. The American Heart Association recommends at least 30-60 minutes most days of the week. I know exercise is so important and have talked to my sisters and friends about ways to get more exercise from your home. A friend of mind mentioned she had heard of doing three - 10 minute workouts throughout the day. Doing the workouts for shorter periods can sometimes make it easier to squeeze in a workout here and there. Also if you get to the end of the day and haven't done anything....10 minutes seems less overwhelming. Now some experts say that you really need twenty minutes to work your heart (get a full cardio workout) which is probably true, but I believe something is always better than nothing! And who knows...you may end up talking yourself into going the full thirty. Usually once I get started, I don't want to stop. It is just the getting started part. So here are Seven 30-minute workouts broken down into 10 minute sections so you can fit them into a day! The cool thing is they can all be done at home with little equipment and are lots of fun! I call them hot MAMA workouts! |
