There are so many different diets out there! How do you know which ones to avoid and which ones to choose? It seems like there is a new diet invented everyday! You hear about the Paleo diet, clean eating, this or that supplement, cleanses and you wonder what is the truth about them? I've come up with these tips to help you recognize harmful diet practices! Here are the 7 biggest diet mistakes, I call them the 7 Big Bad Wolves of Dieting. So when you are looking for a diet........make sure you ask yourselves these questions to make sure it is going to help you and not harm you!
7 BIG BAD WOLVES OF DIETING!!!!
NUMBER ONE: Avoid FAD Diets:
There are thousands of FAD diets out there promising extreme results. When looking for a good diet ask yourself; Can I do this for the rest of my life? Is this a lifestyle change or just something I'm going to be doing for a week or month? Diets that don't encourage lifestyle changes ruin your metabolism and get you in a YO YO weight cycle (your weight fluctuated up and down). Only choose diets that are not short-term!
NUMBER TWO: You don't need to exercise is a FALSE STATEMENT:
If you want to be healthy, you should be exercising on most days of the weeks for 30-60 minutes or more! You should also be doing cardio and strength training. There is no getting around it. Exercise has so many benefits, you have to exercise in order to lose weight. Exercise burns calories and boosts your metabolism! Think about how great it is...... for every part of your body from your head to your toes. Exercise has so many benefits and if you want to be the healthiest you possible, you are going to have to commit!
NUMBER THREE: Diets eliminating entire food groups are NO NO's.
Any diet that eliminates food groups is usually extreme and wrong for two main reasons. The first reason is that when you eliminate a entire food group you are also eliminating essential nutrients. While there may be ways to compensate for these nutrients, it can be extremely hard. The second reason is that it is extremely hard to maintain, basically it isn't a lifestyle change. Can you go without a certain food group for the rest of you life? It sounds rather hard to me:)
NUMBER FOUR: Supplements will do the work for you is a someone trying to get your MONEY.
Nope there is no supplement that can make you lose a lot of weight magically in a healthful way! HCG makes me puke! So just don't go there!
NUMBER FIVE: Large amounts of weight loss quickly is HARMFUL.
2 lb/wk is the most I recommend! I know losing 10lbs/wk sounds nice but the truth is that when you do that you are losing more than fat (muscle & water) and you are at risk for decreasing your metabolism and putting the weight back on more quickly!
NUMBER SIX: DO NOT skip meals
Skipping meals ruins your metabolism. Please, Oh, Please don't go there!
NUMBER SEVEN: Giving up is for QUITTERS!
No matter what.....don't you dare give up. Keep trying to stick to your diet plan even when you have a bad day or bad week or bad month! You can do it and don't forget that!
